Plex pc sync waiting to download
This issue has been present since the sync feature was released multiple years ago. Sync has always been on and off working for me, never consistent or even following any pattern at all. If you need to re-encode media to play on the device, you can use something like handbrake to get the job done. Sync works perfectly on all my other devices, and it has only started misbehaving on this device within the last few weeks. Using sync as it is now is still better than manually maintaining files on a device as they become available…I did that 10 years ago with my iPAQ and PSP, never again.
Same issue here on two Nexus 5Xs. I gave up trying to get to the bottom of the issue and signed up to Spotify instead.
As expected, I was able to get things moving again on my S7. My assumption is that at some time in the last month the DB Device ID the server tracked no longer matched the local Device ID or something similarly related to the Device information on the server , and so the sync path being generated for the items waiting to be downloaded became invalid, thus the errors.
And now we wait…. None of the aforementioned solutions have fixed the issue when trying to sync with a Windows 10 Plex App. The only time I was able to get it to work was when the client and server devices were on the same network and part of the same homegroup. A dedicated Downloads pane lets you see all of your offline content in one pretty list. Power users can still tweak the hell out of Downloads. The Plex Settings let you choose download quality and file size, for example.
But for the most part, Downloads is as simple as salt. It looks like the feature that Sync should have been. Downloads and Sync will coexist for the time being, though future app updates will kill the Sync feature once and for all you should convert offline content to Downloads before Sync dies, by the way.
Bear in mind that Downloads is a Plex Pass feature, so only subscribers can use it. Just like other folks, I was also not able to see perfect sync from Day 1. Here is what I have noticed with my Android and iOS devices.
The plex codebase is probably pretty large by now, what with all the extra features such as news, dvr, exoplayer etc. If a developer reads through all the above complaints, they may not know really know where to start. To get traction, attach logs. For example if you have noticed it works great under charge then works intermittently off charge. Try to simulate that whilst gathering logs. Then post here. History of this forum shows that developers like sixones will put the effort in to look if they have logs, since a log may point them to particular areas of code.
The more logs, the more minor fixes, the more stable sync gets. As for me, I stopped listening to music on my phone after breaking my IEMs and moving house etc. About 6 months later I got set up again, syncing individual albums, TV shows etc. It works for me now. I am affected by the slowness issue though, e. But locked phone in my pocket eventually stops syncing until I re-open.
Plex has a history of introducing a bunch of things, getting lots of feedback and never fixing stuff related to this feedback. This thread is one such occurence. Sorry, have to agree with KarlDag also as a developer. Logs, en mass, without context or guidance from a PLEX rep or dev would be anecdotal to them, and a waste of time for us. Normally in a constructive and engaged product forum, a few specific users would be approached to execute specific test cases.
Their logs would be analysed for the issue, and patches would be tried within the Beta stream of which, I believe, most Plex Pass users like us would be on. These issues are reproducible and consistent, yet there is no engagement by the company to attempt to resolve anything.
